Why does congestion build up?
When requests arrive by phone, chat and manual announcements, staff cannot easily see one consistent status for each student. Parents repeat questions, preparation becomes uneven, and priorities can get lost across gates and classrooms.
A better queue starts with one accountable request flow, not simply another screen added to the existing manual process.
Five clearer steps for pickup
Schools can adapt each step to their gates, students and authorization policy. The important boundary is that arrival never authorizes student release.
- A guardian initiates a pickup request through the accepted channel.
- The request is accepted and enters the queue under school policy.
- Staff see the queue and begin preparing the student when appropriate.
- The authorized pickup person is checked using the school's required verification.
- Authorized staff confirm final handoff and record the request outcome.
Does everyone have to scan a QR code?
Not necessarily. A school may choose additional QR, PIN, or other verification only where appropriate rather than forcing the same manual scan for every family.
Optional scanning does not mean optional authorization. Guardian arrival alone must never complete the handoff; a responsible school staff member approves final release.
What about exceptions?
Absence, delayed guardians, an unavailable student, early pickup or a change in the authorized person should remain visible for staff review. Unconfirmed requests must not silently become completed handoffs.
Where HAAN fits
HAAN is a WESSAAL product being prepared to coordinate pickup requests, queue status, student preparation, authorization checks and final handoff, while avoiding unnecessary repetitive steps.
HAAN is not yet generally available. Joining the early-access list registers interest and gives the school a way to hear about the pilot when activation becomes available; it is not a claim of active deployment.
Want a clearer pickup flow for your school?
Register your school's interest in the pilot. Consider student volume, gate layout and who can authorize pickup.
Join school early accessFrequently asked questions
Does a guardian need a WESSAAL administrator account?
No. Guardians use an experience separate from the school's WESSAAL administration.
Does arrival automatically release a student?
No. Arrival informs the queue. School staff must verify and authorize final release.
Does HAAN replace government education systems?
No. This product does not claim to replace public education systems or have unconfirmed official integrations.
Is HAAN available for live use today?
HAAN is still in pre-launch preparation. Schools can register for early-access updates.
Your school's own safeguarding and authorization policies remain the reference.
